Soul Moustache

Soul Moustache is a project that was born out of love – in more ways than one. Love of music, of course, because both Vytis Smolskas (a composer and piano player who performed on such stages as North Sea Jazz Festival, a former member of extravagant oddballs Milky Lasers, currently playing in a band called Makchu Pikchu) and Vytautė Pupšytė (a jazz-trained singer) are seasoned professionals. They are also a real life couple, married in May of 2015. You can definitely feel it in the music – warm and engaging, full of genuine passion and deep understanding of the melody, something that could have been written during the last several decades, with zero dependence on changing trends. Soul Moustache are conquering new horizons one step at a time – starting with small gigs, Vytis and Vytautė moved on to performances on the national TV and at international festivals (like Vilnius Music Week or Vicenza Jazz in Italy), they also recently opened for well-known international singer Nneka. Well, and what about that name? “A man without a moustache is a man without a soul”, Confucius once said. “Soul stands for what we are, and moustache – for what we think we are. Our music stands for what we have become being both. True recognition comes when your heart sings, when you reach hearts and not ears”, Vytautė explains. Cheers to that.
