Biography
“Edgy Palates” is an experimental vocal music trio formed in 2022 by composers Dainora Aleksaitė, Ieva Parnarauskaitė, and Jūra Elena Šedytė. Known for their bold approach to vocal expression, they create and perform original compositions as well as free-improvisation works.
In 2023, Edgy Palates released their debut album, “Itchy Throat,” in which each member explores, through her individual work, the possibilities of experimental vocals, electroacoustic music, and sound poetry. The album reflects the collective’s aim to expand the boundaries of vocal expression and reveal the sonic potential of the voice within contemporary artistic practice.
The trio’s second album, “Queen of the Night,” released in 2025 and available on vinyl, offers a distinctive reinterpretation of classical repertoire. Familiar works such as Mozart’s “Queen of the Night,” Bizet’s “Habanera,” and Schubert’s “Die Forelle” are transformed by incorporating elements from popular and heavy music.
Performative and site-specific projects also play an important role in the trio’s creative practice. In 2022, the musical performance “Fontanas” (composer: Jūra Elena Šedytė; director: Greta Štiormer) was presented at the site-specific music festival “Muzika erdvėje.” In 2023, the trio created an original performance for the international music and arts festival “Yaga Gathering,” followed by another original performance for the “Gražuolė Smegduobė” festival in 2024.
In 2024, the collective collaborated with Canadian performer and programmer Mike McCormick, based in Norway, to present “Manipulation Charm,” a free-improvisation project incorporating electronics and processed vocals. In 2025, an excerpt from a live performance of the project was included in the “Note Lithuania: Impro Shorts” compilation, released as a physical album.
Edgy Palates’ music has been presented at various contemporary music festivals in Lithuania and abroad. The “Itchy Throat” programme was presented at the “Druskomanija” festival in Druskininkai (2023), while “Queen of the Night” was presented at the “Jauna muzika” festival in Vilnius (2024) and at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in the United Kingdom (2025). “Manipulation Charm” was presented in Cologne and Brussels (2025).
