Among Lithuanian composers with academic background, Antanas Jasenka was the first to get involved in the extreme practices of experimental creativity, such as noise music. nAJmix’95 was one of his first compositions in this field, bearing an obvious reference to Lithuania’s pioneer noise group naj (1990–1995). However, the piece is not a remix, as it could be inferred from the title (nAJ might be also deciphered as noise / Antanas Jasenka), but rather an ideological and aesthetical tribute to the group. The frequenters of new music events and fellow composers were shocked by the unfamiliar harshness and brutal power of the sound, while the whole mixture was concocted in the humble sound studio of the Lithuanian Composers’ Union...
