The world music promoter Gera Muzika Gyvai (Good Music Live) presents MaLituanie, a mixed Lithuanian-Malian music collective, and their same-titled debut album. The album blends the elements of Malian and Lithuanian national music with incredible easiness. The group consists of the prominent Malian world music performer Baba Sissoko and Lithuanian musicians, multiinstrumentalist Saulius Petreikis, folk music singer Laurita Peleniūtė, singer and kanklės (Lithuanian zither-type instrument) player Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė and rock musician Viktoras Diawara (originally from Mali). Recorded in four days, the album consists of thirteen songs, which tell the stories of wanderings and new experiences in exotic countries in search of the traces of cultural memory. Attentive listening to each other has freed up the most unexpected musical correlations and revealed deep universal meanings. Without being aware of it, the performers sang about the same things: man and woman, protection of the Mother Earth and the eternal cycle of human life. The album is marked with deep sensitivity, intimacy and longing for distant lands.
