In the mid 1980s composer Šarūnas Nakas sowed the ideas associated with dada and merz art in the Lithuanian music soil. Saturated with concentrated energy, sometimes even aggression, mechanically pulsating with thick textures and grating urban sound produced by electro-acoustic means, his compositions were soon dubbed ‘machinist’ by critics. Merz-Machine for 33 electronic and acoustic instruments and Vox-Machine for 25 electronically modified voices – are the parts of electro-acoustic music cycle for an un-staged ballet-pantomime Ramblings composed in 1985.
